Fall season recaps

Men's Club Soccer

The Men's Club Soccer team had a very challenging and well fought Fall season. They finished 4th on the table with an overall league record of (W-T-L) 2-2-2 and an overall record of 3-2-3. Opponents this Fall included Sonoma State, UC Davis A, UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, and CSU Chico in the Norcal Premier league this season.

SMC vs. Sonoma state (home) Tie 5-5

SMC vs. UC Davis (home) Loss 1-5

SMC vs. UC Santa Cruz (away) Win 2-1

SMC vs. UC Berkeley (away) Win 3-2

SMC vs. Stanford University (away) Loss 3-6

SMC vs. CSU Chico (home) tie 1-1

SMC vs. University of San Francisco (home) Win 8-2

SMC vs. Santa Clara University (home) Loss 0-2

The team had a significant improvement from our previous season with contributions from many new players ranging from freshman through seniors. The team's focus was a more team-oriented style of play in addition to installing new offensive sets/plays which resulted in many more goals scored this season.  As the team head into its Spring season we look forward to meeting our goal of finishing in the top half of the table and playing first 10 and last 10 - not giving up any goals in that time period of that half.

Women's Club Soccer

The Women’s Club Soccer ended the Fall 2022 season with a 3-2 record. Our division consisted of 5 different teams from Northern California — Sacramento State, San Jose State, Sonoma State, University of California Berkeley, and University of San Francisco.

Our Fall 2022 squad consisted of 21 players: 5 seniors, 5 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 8 freshmen. 3 of our seniors have played all 4 years of their undergraduate career at Saint Mary’s.

The results of each game are as follows:

SMC V. Sacramento State 0-2 (L)

SMC V. SJSU 3-1 (W): goals scored by Isabel Lendman (2) and Arleigh Nisbet

SMC V. UC Berkeley 3-4 (L): goals scored by Isabel Lendman (2) and Sonja Smeritschnig

SMC V. USF 4-1 (W): goals scored by Isabel Lendman (2) and Sonja Smeritschnig (2)

SMC V. Sonoma State 3-0 (W): forfeit

Our team scored a total of 11 goals. Freshman Isabel Lendman led our team in goals this season with freshman Sonja Smeritschnig following closely behind. Both freshmen played forward for our team this season.

As we move forward into our Spring 2023 season, we are looking towards competing against the same lineup of teams. Additionally, we are adding to team leadership and bringing up freshman Malia McGrail and freshman Peyton Selby as captains to join junior Kaylen Mohr and senior Bella Mendez in leading the team. Together, us four plan on building upon the women’s club soccer program by working on fundraising opportunities and recruiting more students to join.
